| - I have a lot to say about Diana at Brunette. But for those of you reading this trying to decide if you should call her I'll organize this review by highlighting (ha ha) the five things I personally love most about her.
1. Skill. Diana is masterful with scissors. She knows how to cut hair so that it grows out beautifully for months afterwards, not so that you need to come back every four weeks. I sometimes go 6 months or more between cuts, purely because of budgeting flux. I continue to get compliments on my hair that whole time. She knows what she is doing.
2. Artistry. I'll be transparent, I met Diana through a roommate about 15 years ago. She used to do my hair in my apartment before she had her own place. In that 15 years I have had my hair long past my hips, buzzed short and sculptural, blonde, pink, blue, black, and all shades of chocolate. I've created bangs, grew them out, and had just about every kind of cut I could think of. She rocked all of those changes for me.
Most often I just gave Diana some idea of what I wanted and *trusted her* to go with her gut. This is when any artist does their best work. I feel very confident in her chair, and the more I relax and give her the reins, the better my hair looks.
3. Value. Diana doesn't try to sell me products or appliances. She once told me that expired suntan lotion makes a great styling product. My last cut came to around $55 after tax and I was happy to pay it and tip generously. See point number one on how her haircuts continue to give value for months.
4. Atmosphere. Diana is lovely and has a calming voice. She is chilled out, loves plants, art and always plays great music to suit her mood. If you like the idea of having a coffee and listening to Neko Case (just one example) Diana's chair is a great fit.
5. Beauty. I always leave Diana feeling beautiful. Her scalp massage, her easy confident handling of my hair, taking the time out to nourish my body in this way has a big impact on how I feel. So, so good.
Another important point is that Diana loves to help your hair do what it wants to do naturally. She is amazing at recognizing your own beauty and finding ways to maximize that. She is honest about what is possible, and explains what certain choices might not give you the results you are looking for. I really trust Diana and have had my hair complimented for the past 15 years because of it.
