  • I used to be a regular Phoenix Suns fan. I still remember working as an usher during the old KJ, Majerle, Barkley days in the old Veteran's Coliseum. The excitement and the fun were just so overwhelmingly contagious. That was a long time ago. There were a smattering of great things with Nash and Stoudemire, but that eventually fizzled out as well. Those were the last games I truly enjoyed and no amount of coercing would get me to pay big bucks for floor seats again. Fast forward to January, 2016. I just found out that the Suns Charities made a substantial donation to one of the charities that we support. This puts them on my radar, so I figured - what the heck, let me get a floor seat just to see what they are about. They were kind enough to make that donation, I might as well show some respect. They are trying, after all. However, I am not sure, but when I went to see them this time around, trying was not in their agenda - it seemed like. This was about the worst game that I have ever had the displeasure of seeing. They were playing against the Miami Heat, and the only exciting part of this game were the Miami players! I don't know much about Dwayne Wade because I stopped following basketball a long time ago, but when I saw him do a spin move on one of the Suns players and dunked on him - I knew that the Suns were in major trouble. Dwayne's move was so quick, that the Suns player basically stood there for about 2 seconds before he realized that he just got pawned and that he should start running towards to other end now! OMG! I don't know much of anything about the Suns players at this time. I read that they do have a young team, but no superstars as of yet. Lots of controversy though, and at the time of this delayed writing; Coach Jeff Hornacek was just let go. This doesn't bode well for the team. I made a quick exit, and left at half-time in disgust, and went to get dinner instead. I visited my normal Teppanyaki haunts, and had more fun interacting with the Chef and the other guests than I had at the game. I was thankful for their donation. I wasn't thankful for such a terrible performance. Perhaps, they will turn it around some day. Until then, I am holding onto my $1K per court side seat discretionary fund, until a team worth watching comes along. In a few more months, at least the 3x champion Phoenix Mercury will take to the same court. At least they know how to win championships, and their crowd is so much more energetic and exciting!
