| - This review is mostly for Dr. Nelson (first name) Lopez (last name), though Dr. Marietta Nelson (last name) also comes highly recommended. The name issue at this practice, along with Dr. Lopez's considerable skills and pleasant, professional demeanor, prompted me to enter a review here on Yelp, under his name as well, because I think he deserves his own. So, on to mine...
At the time of my first appointment, Dr. Lopez was not my ophthalmologist, but he's gained himself a loyal, compliant patient for as long as he practices here. (I only qualify that because he's young and really could go anywhere he wants.) This well-trained, well-versed, respectful physician has well, patience, with his patients, treating us as a whole person, not just the body part he's examining. That said, on to my own ailing body part...
I made my first appointment on a Saturday, suspecting that my contact lens related Giant Papillary Conjunctivitis had come back after its 30 year hiatus.
I know physicians don't like to hear things like this about their colleagues, but I was also very disappointed and frustrated after two instances of misdiagnosis coupled with, well, a polite dismissal of this patient's very specific concern and request. During one appointment, they even refused to evert my upper lid. I left there with a diagnosis of the catch all "dry eye", convinced that I probably have that too, but still miffed about the reluctance to rule out or confirm concurrent GPC. I don't have a medical degree myself, so I don't like to tell physicians their business, but sheesh, I don't go around asking people to flip my eyelid inside out for the fun of it, and if I could do it myself, I totally would. And so would Dr. Lopez.
He spent a really long time looking around up in there and confirmed that the bumps were there, and kind of big :(
We're treating them now with a second course of the standard corticosteroid drop usually prescribed for this condition. I hope it works.
(I know that staff and business owner sometimes read these reviews, so I'd also like to say a few more things.)
The staff here have treated me wonderfully each time I've been here and the (I'm so sorry, I don't know their titles) assistants who do the preliminary work before the doctor gets to the consulting room are so impressive and thorough!
I hate my condition, but love the physician! If you are, as I have been, a little hesitant about seeing a DO (rather than an MD), don't be. They're basically the same, DOs probably receive more training in communicating with patients. I'm not really a doc shopper or doc hopper, and I like and respect the other 2 ophthalmologists I've seen in Las Vegas, but I take vision and eye health seriously, so I don't feel guilty about this; I'm so glad I found this place!
