| - TLDR: Must stay in Toronto for the rooftop pool! Don't bother purchasing a drink at the lounge if you want to sip while relaxing by the pool.
We were so thrilled to have the opportunity to stay at the Thompson hotel! This hotel is definitely out of our price range, so we had our eyes out for any discounts. We jumped on a deal through booking.com when the hotel offered a handful of Sunday evenings at 40% off.
This hotel is full of luxury! We called the morning of our reservation and had our names placed on a wait list to have an early check-in. We arrived around 1 and our room was ready for us. This worked out perfectly as we wanted to head up to the rooftop pool as soon as possible.
When we first entered the hotel room, I was honestly blown away with how amazing it was. The dark hardwood floors, the glass walled shower, the light switches accessible from the bed. I also loved the "do not disturb" button right near our doorway that lit up our suite number outside to notify staff that we didn't need any cleaning.
This place was high tech!
We made our way upstairs to the rooftop pool on the 16th floor. We were stunned by the view of the Toronto skyline. We lucked out to have a group leaving as we arrived so we snagged two recliners right next to the pool.
I went to order drinks to enjoy in the sun. At $16 a beverage, I could swallow that cost knowing I could sip my drink while relaxing by the pool. Unfortunately, as I returned to the pool area with our drink, I was notified by security that drinks couldn't be brought onto the sundeck. We had to sit in the lounge to drink our cocktails. I wish I had known this before ordering a drink, as we ended up finishing them off quickly to get back to our spot. This was NOT worth the cost.
The pool wasn't very busy and we got as much use out of it over the weekend. We made sure to arrive early the next morning to grab a nice spot and soak up the sun.
One disappointment was that there were no towels at the pool in the morning until about 10:30, even though the pool opened at 7 am. There was also garbage and glasses from the night before still left out until cleaned up just before the towels arrived. For the level of service throughout the rest of the hotel, I was left surprised by this oversight.
Apart from the crazy expensive drinks at the lounge and the lack of service at the pool for 3 hours, our weekend at the Thompson was an incredible experience and the envy of our friends back in Alberta. This is the perfect place to go for a romantic getaway!
We hope to return next summer to enjoy the rooftop view once again!
