We were in the area by coincidence, and saw lots of people walking by with dark ice cream. Inevitably, we were intrigued, and kept walking until we saw a long line in front of what turned out to be ihalo. I'm sort of glad there was a bit of a line, because that gave us time to figure out what was offered and try some samples.
I ended up ordering the ube haze (along with two others in our group), which is a combo of the charcoal and ube flavours. I'm not sure what kind of taste I was expecting from 'coconut charcoal' ice cream, but it tasted a lot like vanilla to me (luckily my favourite flavour of ice cream). I also had the opportunity to try the matcha. I'm not too big on matcha-flavoured items, but this ice cream was subtle enough that I would definitely consider ordering that in the future. A bonus was enjoying our treat in Trinity Bellwoods.
The ice cream is a little more expensive than average, especially with a charcoal cone, but I would recommend visiting at least once (to see what the hype is about right?)
