| - I brought my golden retriever here for a grooming and was pleasantly surprised by friendly, professional staff, a clean establishment and a particularly quiet ambience. No crazy barking, no terrifying jet-fueled blowdryers, no.. anything, really. Just quiet, and calm.
Prices are standard at 70$ for my female golden retriever, so penny-savers might be disappointed to find that there are no real 'deals' to be had. That said, the quality of the groom was high and aside from some minor choppiness around my dog's ears - and I work with dogs so I'm a bit picky anyway - I was happy.
They do crate the dogs in between their time on the grooming table, which is a bit old school when compared to the new and quickly popular "cage-free" places popping up around town.
I do have one complaint, with that being said. After telling them that I would be picking my dog up at around 6:30, they informed me that the groomers tend to finish and leave earlier than that, and that she would be moved into the retail building across the parking lot to wait for me. This was a completely perfect solution for me and apparently in their regular practices for people who have to pick up their dogs after work, and everything would have been fantastic if they didn't..
.. well, forget.. my dog..
My dog was crate trained as a puppy and is naturally quiet, calm, and tends to relax in the offered peace of a crate. The groomers apparently forgot her, closed up the shop, and the owner had no idea she was in there as she continued about her daily business in the retail section (again, across the parking lot) with the other dogs who were waiting to be picked up.
Now this is the only blemish on the entire experience, and I feel almost bad for writing about it because I really, really don't believe this was something they do regularly. The owner was exceptionally apologetic and gave me a free dog bone/treat for the mix-up, but I do feel it's necessary to share the experience as a whole. Aside from their word, I'm really not sure how long my dog was alone (safely in the crate, mind you), or how long she was without water. The latter bothers me more than anything else.
Overall, I'm giving The Barking Lot 4 stars for being a reasonably priced, clean establishment with a lot to offer between the multiple storefronts it actually has. There's ample parking and the staff are great. I'll likely go again, in spite of the little mishap we had with our first visit.
