This is one of my favorite hikes in southern Nevada. It is traditionally the hike that "opens" the Mount Charleston season for me. I hiked it today and the falls, though not gushing, were beautiful. It was also fun to see some snow in June in Las Vegas.
Now for my rant:
This trail is heavily damaged due to the fact that many people are cutting the switchbacks and sliding down the hill. This is eroding the trail and the mountainside. There are some places where the trail is almost gone completely. The trail is where it is located for a reason! Protect the mountain by using only the established trail. I saw more people using the shortcuts than the real trail today.
Also, this is rough mountainous terrain. it is uneven, rocky, and a misstep could cost someone their life in places. (Made even worse by the lazy hikers who cut the trails - I know I am ranting again!) Please parents, do not let your child do this trail in flip flops. It is just far too dangerous.
