If Giant Eagle is going to continue to offer a more upscale shopping experience with Market District, they also need to upgrade the help that works at these stores, otherwise they are just polishing a turd.
A particular example, the employees working the deli were horrible. Two young guys who could not get orders right or people waited on in a timely manner. But then again this is an Akron thing where people are a little bit slower down here due to their "Hoopie" West Virginia heritage. This was a slow Tuesday night and it took over 10 minutes for them to wait on a handful of customers. And they sliced instead of "chip-chopping" the Isaly's chopped ham like I told them to. The cashier help was surly as well, which is pretty typical of Millennial retail workers anyway.
The meat department had such a limited choice in steaks and practically had no offerings of chicken wings. the selection is really no better than a regular Giant Eagle store.
The store overall is nice as Market Districts usually are but the employees are the rank and file ones that you would experience at your typical Giant Eagle.
Please Wegmans, come to Northeast Ohio and save us from the talons of the Dirty Bird, they need some serious competition here .
