| - I have never not left a tip for service, even when it hasn't been up to par. Today was the first time. My experience at Pearl Nails was the worst I've had at a nail salon. I had a 3pm appointment for a regular manicure. I waited 35 minutes with no explanation or apology within that timeframe. Finally, I was seated by the woman who was going to do my nails, but she proceeds to go back to check out the woman she had just worked on, trying to convince her to get her brows waxed. The customer said no, and the woman who was now 40 minutes late starting on my manicure tries again, "brow wax? I have time now". I almost walked out at that point but the customer gave another "no thanks" and left.
The nail tech starts to prepare my area for my manicure and proceeds to take a cuticle clipper from an obviously just used pedicure station, and places it next to my hands to use on me. There was even some skin on it from the last customer. After trying not to gag, I asked her nicely "are you going to sterilize those?" to which she replied after looking at the used clippers "I will get you a new one". She left and returned with a new pair wrapped in plastic (shouldn't this be a given?) and says to me "I got you a new one. Brand new". Um, do you want a gold star for not using the dirty one you just planned on using? Nevertheless, I said thanks, although in hindsight, I should have ran. The rest of the manicure went well until she tried putting top coat on after just two coats of the streaky polish. I requested a third coat. A piece of dirt or lint landed on one of my nails which she was planning on leaving there. I politely asked her if she could please remove it, and she used the clipper which caused a bump on the polish that she was also going to leave until I let her know that it needed to be fixed a bit. Then she accidentally smudged the same nail and tried covering it again, so we had to remove the polish from the nail and start over. Accidents happen but it was when she said "It was fine the last time. You could only see it if you looked close" that was just the icing on the cake. At this point, I had been in the salon for 1 hour and 15 minutes for what should have taken only 15-20 minutes at most. I was so shocked by the whole experience that I left her nothing but the $15 for the manicure and walked out. What terrible service this was! Never again.
