  • I visited Grist House Brewing this past Saturday to support my friend's who were providing that night's live entertainment [Houdini's Psychic Theatre with a side of Pittsburgh Happy Hour - yes I'm shameless] and could not understand how it has taken me this long to find this place [grad school and no car ....] This small home brewery reminded my of my little annual neighborhood festival we used to have every summer, where you would sit around with your friends and neighbors, popped a tap in the barrel of local beer while your kids and dogs roamed around and you watched the teenagers sneak off to get drunk in the fields or around the bonfire [I grew up in Germany so this was all pretty legal] Immediately you gain a feeling of home and homemade. Grist will have an assortment of Ales and Wheat Beer which the staff will be more than happy to describe to you. Also, if you are interested in the Brew process they will be happy to make talking points to this as well. [It's useful when it's brewed on site]. I personally only got around to drinking a single beer, which was a Black IPA [looked like a stout, tasted like a lager - so all very interesting]. I had been going most of the day so I was tapering off at that moment in time. So I can't wait to go back for more. The place has snifter and flights which is all very exciting! Grists has a fantastic outdoor deck which enhances the feeling of backyard and a courtyard with about 2 or 3 rows of benches. Best days are naturally when it's gorgeous outside, which we happen to be in luck for. As the establishment does not sell food one of the local Food trucks are around each weekend [this time it was the Burgh Bites Cart] and live entertainment can be set up in the corner of the yard. Additionally the location is family and dog friendly. So if you have a pup, pack 'em up and bring 'em along. A pleasant change as so many places are not friendly to 4 legged guests. I personally don't have one but I welcome a change in pace. I wish I had a chance to try more of the Beers so I can't wait to come back for another stab at this hidden gem Cheers
