Tried Va bene after eyeballing it on Groupon for quite a while. A few days before dinner I called and made a reservation; upon arrival we had to wait. The restaurant is kind of a yin and yang situation; one side is a full loud bar with TVs blaring sports and the other half is the dining area. The tables in the dining room are pretty close and the atmosphere is very loud and chaotic, not relaxing and romantic as I'd hoped.
At first our server seemed really icy and rude but throughout the night he became much more personable. Food wait times were bordering the "I'm getting very hangry" point. While the portions were VERY generous, the food was just very average to me. Not bad, not great. I think that on a slower night things could be better; I just don't live close enough to make that gamble.
