Shh, I'm cheating on my diet. But cheating for Prantl's famous burnt almond torte earns me a pass, right?
The downtown shop is the smaller of the Prantl's bakeries, but it still has a good variety of delicious treats for all my fellow sugar fiends out there. I came in with a mission to find this burnt almond torte. The Prantl's employee pointed me to this teeny tiny pastry. THAT? That's it?! She then pointed to the cake version....well, guess I'm going for the teeny tiny torte.
The dessert consists of yellow sponge cake covered in buttercream frosting and sugar-coated almonds with a dollop of custard to finish. Let me tell ya, it was magical! This is one thing that lives up to its hype - small yet mighty. The super sweet frosting was offset with the calmer taste of the cake, and I loved how the sugar-coated almonds added a little crunch to it. Incredible! At $1.50 a pop, it's a fairly budget-friendly treat. If you're looking for more oomph, I've had their massive cookies and those hit the spot when you feel that sweet tooth tingling. You better believe I'm coming back for a burnt almond cake - but maybe after bikini season.
