Yes they melt together: good cheese curds use good batter, good batter needs to cook, cooking leads to cheese MELTing. If you enjoy cheese curds like 1 year olds enjoy their first taste of solid foods: in individual, bite size bits, you're gonna have to go to a place that uses bad batter for their curds. But if you are a proper Wisconsin adult, you will have bite.
No the cheese they use is not bland.
