| - I've been a member of Mountain Equipment Co-op since the mid 1990s. My main focus is on cycling and skiing. As a place to get great outdoor ware for either sport, it is hard to beat MEC's prices and quality. Their supply of value-priced, good quality cycling supplies, means I make the trip to King Street at least once a month. Best time to go there is during a weekday afternoon. The staff does seem knowledgeable on the rare occasion I need to ask for an opinion.
As a cyclist, I also enjoy their covered bike parking, so if it snows or rains, my bike is still dry. The other plus for me, is that it is a co-operative, so if you really don't like how something is done or the brands they carry, you can get motions passed to change it. This is different than a Worker-Co-op, like some of the other bike shops in Toronto, because they are communally owned by the workers, not the shoppers. I shop at these shops too, but I first go to MEC to see if they have an item I want first.
