| - Since Daniel Boulud has his name on this restaurant, and it is located in the most expensive hotel in Montreal, you are not going to go wrong. My friend and I had a great meal here. It's not at all a stuffy, formal dining room, though it does possess about the most gorgeous, beautiful bar I have ever seen in any restaurant, anywhere. I was all set to wear a suit and tie, but when I saw what my companion decided to wear and when I looked at the pictures of the space, I decided on just a nice shirt and slacks. That was a good choice. Most of the diners were dressed on the more casual side. But, the food we had would have been right at home at the very formal Daniel in New York. Our meal was simply exquisite. Unknowingly ahead of time, my companion and I ordered the same courses: crudo de dorade, ravioli with sweet potato and primo sale cheese, and halibut. Halibut is my favorite fish, and this is the best halibut course I've ever had in my life. We finished with a blood orange dessert that had both of our mouths dropping to the floor. It was the standout course in a meal of standouts. Bread service was great. Wine service was even greater, with a delightful sommelier who put up with my friend's somewhat finicky palate. And we had negronis that were knockouts. This place is not cheap, but it's worth every penny--if you want to indulge, this is the place to do it. (Did I mention that the wines by the glass were spectacular?) I absolutely loved this restaurant and our evening was made even more special by the wedding that was taking place in the garden, visible through the windows behind our seats. I may not be able to afford a stay at the Ritz Carlton on my next visit, but at least I can eat here! It really is a great place.
