  • We adopted a kitten eight months ago ( His name is Smokey Bear)from the SPCA. When we took him home we noticed he was underfed and sick. We took him to the vet and he eventually got better. We have cared for him for the past eight months as we would for any other member of our family. Our neighbor would always ask us if her granddaughter could play with Smokey and we would let her. Last week she told us how much she liked Smokey and if she could buy him. We obviously said no but told her they were more than welcome to visit with him whenever they liked. Last week she stole Smokey, removed his collar and took him to this shelter. She then adopted Smokey within a couple of hours. The shelter never called us to let us know what was going on. When we found out, we went down to the shelter and spoke with the manager. She told us we broke our contract because we let Smokey outside. We didn't let him outside, our neighbor stole him. I asked how was it possible that someone could just steal a pet and bring them to them and they would not question them? She was extremely rude and aggressive after this. She told us Smokey didn't belong to us anymore and yelled at us to leave. We called the police and even they said it was extremely unprofessional and uncaring the way the shelter handled the situation. They wrote a report and they recommend we should go to court to get Smokey back. I still can't believe that my crazy neighbor stole our pet and the manager at the shelter took her side!!
