  • Let me start by saying that I don't like Korean barbecue. In fact, I don't like Korean food, other than the occasional tofu house--and by occasional, I mean once a year. But this place swept me off my feet. We, a party of six, arrived before the restaurant opened at 11:30 a.m. and waited outside for the doors to open. As we stepped in, someone started to set our table with all the side dishes; as soon as we were seated, we started nibbling. These were high-quality side dishes, from the fishcake slices to the kimchi. There was also macaroni salad, pickled cucumbers, etc. All of these items are "refillable" upon request. While the menu includes weekday lunch specials and meal sets (four different options for parties of 2 or 6), we opted to order a la carte so we could get each item we wanted: -Kobe beef carpaccio ($9.95): So good! Thin slices of meat heaven, really. There was enough for each of us to have 2-3 pieces, too, so definitely a generous serving. -Spicy tuna kimbap ($6.95): Kind of like a spicy tuna with crispy rice roll that you'd find at some Izakayas, but the rice is rolled up in seaweed, and the tuna is poke-style. You get the soft fish and the crunchy rice with a light sriracha mayo flavor--comes together very nicely. It's four rolls, but we managed to share between six of us. -Tteokbokki ($4.95): Consisting of soft rice cake, fishcake (same as the side dish), and hot sauce, this dish took me by surprise. It looks like a simple bowl of rice cakes, but is full of flavor, not awfully spicy. Make sure that you get a fishcake slice with the rice roll to get all the flavors together. A good, cheaper option for something that's a bit more filling. -Spicy ramen egg ($6.95): I was skeptical, but boy was I proved wrong! This was one of the most enjoyable bowls of ramen I've had, even though it really was just ramen, egg, some greens, and spice. Like the tteokbokki, it's simple, but so good for the soul and for the tummy. You can opt for the Japanese sausage/ seafood options for additional cost. -Bibim nangmyun ($11.95): Spicy cold thin noodles. This was my least preferred of all the dishes, but even then, I'd give it a 4/5. Nothing bad about it, just that it's not as savory as it looks, though you can add whatever sauces you want. I'd recommend mixing in some of the spicy fishcake side dish for additional flavor. -Original bibimbap ($12.95): Our server helped us mix everything together and even dished it out to each of us. Best bibimbap I've had, hands down. Flavorful, filling, and "healthy" (because of all the veggies in it, of course). -Beef toro ( 2x$4.95), beef tongue (2x$8.95), flat iron garlic ($8.95), Korean prime kalbi ($8.95): I couldn't really tell the difference between any of them, but it doesn't matter, because they were all so delicious. For the meats that aren't already marinated, definitely use the three sauces provided to you--in fact, I recommend dipping the same piece of meat into all three sauces to get a slightly sweet/ tangy, and definitely spicy kick to your otherwise unflavored meat. All of this cost only $125--including tax and gratuity! All six of us were extremely stuffed and very happy. Oh, AND with Yelp check-in, we each got a free macaron for dessert... Maybe not the best life choice, but who can turn down a free dessert?
