I went to Sang's Level 1 (makimoto) class last evening and it was wonderful. Sang is clearly passionate and knowledgeable about what he does. The class began with an overview of sushi's history, which I really appreciated. You'll learn some interesting facts.
I've done other classes in large cities before, which cost double or triple. Sang took a very personalized approach to checking each of our rolls, and answering questions along the way. He was patient in running the class. We were originally scheduled for two hours, and it ended up being 3 by the time we spoke to Sang before leaving. I didn't mind, since I actually had a lot of fun and met some friendly people.
The class is affordable, too - especially when you contrast it to other comparables within Toronto. You essentially eat a dinner's worth of meal for each patron. Other classes priced at this point aren't even hands-on.
Sang also sells affordable beverages ($6 for Sapporo or wine, $2 green teas/pops) which is a nice addition.
We will definitely be looking to doing the second level (sashimi). The class is held in a large room on Weston, with plenty of street parking nearby. I think Keele is the closest subway station.
If you're looking for a fun date night activity, pick this!
