  • Far too expensive for mediocre barbecue. I stopped by this place before the state basketball championships because a friend had a 2 for 1 coupon he and his brother were going to use. Talk about an unfunded mandate! My other friend and I had to pay full price, and this is one of the few times I have had this kind of sticker shock for a meal. We ordered a drink apiece, a meal, and water, and it came to about $40 per person. The barbecue itself was similar to Smoky Jon's (vinegar based) at about twice the price. Since I prefer molasses based barbecue or dry rub, I'll not be eating here again. The other strike against Brickhouse was that the service was terrible the time I went here. Our waitress was not very good, but I could tell she was par for the course in watching other tables and how they were served. If I want barbecue near downtown Madison, I'll go to Famous Dave's or Fat Jack's instead.
