Stories of home builders gone wrong made me very very nervous. When I first found my property I loved it but I wasn't aware of anyone that had ever used Streetside before. I looked around and even the complaints I heard were a bit acceptable given the size of projects (trees weren't thriving after turning over to the board) nothing like atleast three other builders I knew of that had some serious issues. Ultimately I did build with Streetside and I have lived in the property for quite some time. It certainly wasn't perfect but the blips were pretty small.
There were some bumps:
- The hot water tanks were a bit small to cover in floor heating and still have warm showers but it was replaced at their expense
- After the last round of nail pops in the warranty process they didn't repaint which was a bit annoying
- my fridge was probably never a level of appliance I'd consider buying and it died and has already been replaced (mind you I still technically got life expectancy from it). Now that I have a good fridge my food is lasting longer than it ever did in my builder special.
-the changed some doors and windows from the original plan which I disliked but have adapted to
- I didn't build in air conditioning at several thousand dollars and now it's extremely hard to install anything because of the type of windows they used. I'm still fiddling with temporary ways of making this work every summer.
- I have a door that never really lined up well. They fiddled with it a few times and it was made better but never perfect. Maybe the door frame is slightly off. Luckily it's a non-consequential door on the inside.
- I've had trades say a few things were not 100% code like missing a couple support straps on the gas lines which was an easy fix but it was a sloppy over sight.
Overall though, I've been happy with most of the quality. I didn't give a lot of thought to them including upgraded fixtures in the base price until I started seeing friends that got non-upgraded fixtures. I can't believe what some places call bathtubs for example because they are the depth of a kiddie pool. Or I can't believe the terrible paint others have used or how hard floors are with carpet because the underlay is poor.
The community has also held up fairly well through the years. Condo fees have more than doubled since the condo board has taken over which is typical but annoying.
