| - This is a review of the entire property -- hotel, games, and food. I've gambled here probably a hundred times, eaten here dozens of times, and I've stayed here a few times as well. I've had normal rooms and suites.
First off, on the hotel side, the front desk is never very busy, which is good. The property is not massive, so it's a very short walk from the hotel to anywhere in the casino. 3 elevators and it's only a 4 floor hotel, so no long waits. Room service is pretty quick and is mainly the same menu as the Sundance Grill downstairs (standard 24-hour cafe offerings). Two ice machines per floor, so that's nice.
The rooms themselves are a bit of a mystery. The normal rooms I've stayed in are actually quite large, but have a lot of empty space. Silverton is a outdoorsy-themed casino and that shows in the room decorations; giant wooden cabinets for the TV, paintings of fishermen on the walls, and lots of brown colors. The normal room had a safe, small desk, love seat, and a small but very heavy table. So much space that you could easily fit an inflatable mattress or two in the room, though. The AC worked great. Goes down to 60 and it definitely gets that cold in the room if you need it that cold. No coffee maker, but you can hang a postcard on your door that will tell them to deliver a pot of coffee at a set time in the morning (for less than $10) -- though the earliest they will deliver is 6 AM. TV was a big old CRT that got fuzzy pictures and, because everyone is doing HD now, a lot of the sides of TV shows were cut off because of the dimensions of standard TV sets.
The suite is similarly mysterious. There are maybe only 2 suites per floor, per the floor map. They are massive, probably around 1000 sq ft with a bar area, living room, bedroom, and bathroom. Firstly, the decoration is over the top. Wooden logs line the wall/ceiling, there's a deer's head mounted on the wall (probably real, just like the ones downstairs at Bass Pro Shops), lots of fake plants, and faux-animal skin lampshades. As nice as the room was, I was surprised with what it lacked, though. First off, there is a nice bar/kitchen looking area with a huge copper sink, but no refrigerator. They at least give you a (very small) coffee maker now. There's a nice flatscreen TV in the living room, but the bedroom has that 20-year-old CRT TV again. The AC unit is mounted towards the ceiling and ours had some exposed parts and was in desperate need of some cleaning. It has a remote control, and even though we put it down to 60 it 1) never blew cold air in the living room and 2) probably never got lower than 70 degrees in the bedroom.
A couple of gripes about the hotel. You can get more soap/shampoo from the front desk but if you want new ice bags or coffee they will have to call housekeeping to bring them up to you. The "do not disturb signs" are heavy and/or oddly shaped, so when you open the door they will usually fall off. The walls and floor are VERY thin. If people are walking down the hall or in the room above yours you can hear them. If housekeeping is vacuuming the hall or the room above yours it is actually very disturbing.
As far as restaurants go, I'm a big fan of every place here, which is a rarity (probably 1/4 of my restaurant reviews are 1-star, usually due to bad service). They have two chain restaurants in Starbucks and Johnny Rockets. Both are fine, although the latter is a tad slow. The buffet here is good and reasonably priced, the 24-hour Sundance Grill is good, the Mexican restaurant Mi Casa is very good, the steakhouse, Twin Creeks, is one of the best I've ever eaten at, and the newest Asian restaurant, Wu Hu Noodle, is very good and fast. My recommendations would be the burger from the Sundance Grill, kung pao chicken or general tso's chicken from Wu Hu Noodle, the carnitas burrito from Mi Casa, and the filet mignon & potatoes au gratin from Twin Creeks.
As for the games, I don't play table games, but they have two pit areas -- one open all the time and the other open only when it's really busy. In terms of slots and video poker they have a good selection. They have lots of promotions going on, usually a few times a week. Maybe come in and play to get some free play, get a free gift, or get a discount on dining.
