| - I don't really go to a lot of dessert places, I think this might be the 3rd one in my whole life.
Out of the 3 this might be my least favourite one. I'm a little in the middle with Tian Yuan, it's not exactly the worst but there's not the best. It's really just a so-so for me.
Like someone had said in their previous review, the first thing I realized as well upon entering was the smell. To me, it smelt like those old children's books that are made of what I would assume really hard cardboards? And surprise, that's what their menus are made of.
The menus were really great quality, wonderfully printed and easy to read. That I really appreciated. The place is a little small, but everything in this general shopping area is small. I was greeted with a friendly welcoming smile, so +1 there.
It's got everything you would find in a standard Asian dessert place, but here's the one thing I was hoping for when I walked in. There were no waffles! Either I didn't look hard enough or it really just wasn't there!!
I ended up going for the house special brick toast w/mango ice cream. You do get your choice in ice cream. The fiance got a caramel cheesecake.
Naturally his came first because of course your just slicing up a big cake. It was nicely designed but the cheesecake itself was pretty ... Meh. I couldn't really tell if they made it their self. If you have gone to Cafe Princess, think of their cheesecake. It tastes pretty much on par.
My house special brick toast did take a while for it to come out, and though I don't think I really captured it's beauty with the picture I had taken, they really REALLYYYY put a lot of time and effort into it, which is why I gave this place an extra star. The insides were cut up into small little squares and stuffed back in, nice and toasted for that mango ice cream to absorb. Every single corner of the brick toast and the plate had fruits and a small squeeze of whipped cream. You can really tell they put it their all.
I've only had 1 brick toast in my past, and this one just really tasted like toast while the one I had from a while back was sweetened. To be honest I don't know the proper way of preparing a brick toast. Overall it was okay. I mean ... It was toast and ice cream.
I really like this place for the friendly people and very cutesy environment, but there's nothing really tugging at my heart strings to come back here. I ended up here because I was out at 1am looking for some sweets. And Tian closes at 2am on a Saturday.
I had paid with debit, so that's a good thing. A majority of Asian places don't offer that, and when they do, there's always some kind of limit. I was also offered to come back with a 10% discount card if I had paid cash. I may use it, I may not.
