| - I went to Chinatown for lunch and decided to give this place a try since I was in the neighbourhood. It was located next to Mayweather Boxing Club.
I walked into the place and there was a guy and lady manning the store. I asked the guy about prices for a lesson and for shooting and he mentioned a price of ~$40/hour for the lessons and $15/hour for shooting. The $40/hour price tag for the lessons was somewhat of a shock since their website showed a price of $20/hour. I mentioned that I would then opt for the hour of shooting. There were already people shooting in the indoor range at the time. He then asked me to extend my arms in front of my eyes so that he could see which eye I had a preference for. He then mentioned it to the lady. I paid my $15 and he looked at the time at the back of the cash register and he said it is 3:00pm so by 4:00pm I should be done. It was in fact 3:05pm according to the clock but I didn't want to argue.
I then went to the range and the lady there mentioned that the people were just about to finish and then I would start. They continued for roughly another 5 minutes and then handed their equipment back to the lady. She then gave me the equipment which comprised of a glove for the fingers, a forearm wrap, the bow, and 4 arrows. She explained to me the rules and then I was allowed to shoot. After shooting my 4 arrows, I basically was required to wait until the other people had finished shooting before shouting out a command/word for safety and going to get my 4 arrows.
There was a father & son (son was probably 8) who were also shooting for the first time and they asked a lot of questions after shooting one or two arrows out of the four that they had in their quiver on the floor so I had to wait to get my arrows while they were talking to the lady. The father was asking questions like "I aimed directly at the target but my arrow went to the right of the target and something is wrong". The lady answered "If this happens, you just have to remember and compensate for this for your next shot". He then asked "I'm right handed so can you give me a different bow". She then said "During the arm extension eye test, the bow you have is more suited to you". After roughly 5 minutes, the lady saw that these people were holding up the line by asking their multiple questions so she issued to the command stating that it was safe to get the arrows.
By 4:00pm (even though I actually paid at 3:05pm and when I actually got the equipment from the other customers, it was 3:10pm), I wasn't asked to stop but decided to stop anyways as this was the time that the person behind the counter mentioned to me and I didn't want him to mention that I was supposed to stop at 4:00pm if I returned my equipment later than 4:00pm.
I would rank the experience as a fun experience but giving them 3 stars (average rating). What makes me not give them a perfect rating is that the hour didn't really represent an hour for me since when I paid, the guy reduced my time by ~5 minutes. I paid at 3:05pm and the guy mentioned it was 3:00pm so I should finish at 4:00pm and when I went to the range, I wasn't given the equipment until the previous customers finished with them ~5 minutes later (loss of ~10 minutes). The guy behind the counter/cash was lax with the time but in terms of being lax with the time, I don't have any issues with it as long as it wasn't at the detriment of the customer. When I entered the store & paid, it was 3:05pm but when he turned his head around to look at the clock hanging over the cash register, he mentioned my start time as being 3:00pm and I should be finished at 4:00pm. I also didn't get the equipment or instructions until after the previous customers had finished using the equipment which was roughly 5 minutes later so a total of ~10 minutes was lost which didn't include the time spent because the father/son were holding up the shooting line by asking a lot of questions after firing 2 arrows out of their 4 arrows before the lady decided to shout the command to let me get my arrows. Another reason for the less then perfect rating is that the webpage advertised price for the lessons is not the actual price when showing up in the store. You are also at the mercy of people holding up the line when they talk with friends or talk with store clerks especially when you only have 4 arrows in your quiver which they don't appear to monitor. Finally, the forearm guard that they provide doesn't provide much protection as I wound up getting a large bruise a few hours after my practice. The material in my t-shirt would provide better protection for the inside of my forearm.
The shortchanging in time, the differences in webpage advertised price, and forearm guard which is available/given to customers makes me give them less than a perfect rating or a 4/5 rating.
On a side note (which doesn't affect their rating in any way) cellphone service is spotty/weak here at least with T-Mobile.
