| - MY FIRST REVIEW OF 2018...goes to Adventure Combat Ops and boy was it an embarrassing and mediocre experience.
I have wanted to come here the last few years but my last few Sin City trips always coincided with the days that ACO were closed. My last trip during this past December allowed me to finally plan a trip to kill some zombies. My friend and I bought a $229 (for two) package on Groupon that consisted of
Black Jumpfast helmet
Eye protection
Basic tactical chest rigg
Two magazines (each holding roughly 100-120 rounds)
Basic black Masada Airsoft Rifle
Upon arrival at our 1 pm reservation time, we were given a brief introduction to our zombie apocalypse and met our team leaders Hawkeye and Gator. When it came time to gear up, my friend and I were only given the protective glasses, a rifle and only one magazine. I asked two other employees about the Groupon package that we had purchased and how we didn't get everything listed in the package. The two employees didn't really know and kinda just brushed us off. There were other people (a radio group) with us that got the chest vest, multiple magazines and the helmet. At this point, we didn't have our phones with us (stowed away in the group valuables container) and couldn't show confirmation of our package.
We decided to ask our group leader, Hawkeye, for an extra magazine each (he was offering people an extra magazine for $10) and then explain the whole situation afterwards to him. But instead of just giving us the magazine, guess what this asshole decides to do? He thinks it's a great idea to make my friend and I beg on our knees for the magazine, in front of everyone. I have no idea what kind of sales pitch Hawkeye is trying to push, but do you really think it's appropriate to make a paying customer get on his/her knees and beg for an extra magazine....ONE THAT I SHOULD HAVE ALREADY GOTTEN AHEAD OF TIME...as part of my purchased package. So yes, we ended up getting on our knees and begging for that extra magazine, simply because we were stunned at his request and had no idea how to proceed. By the way, we never got our tactical vest and our helmet too.
Aside from that embarrassing initial encounter, our whole zombie killing experience wasn't too bad. The simulation experience was pretty cool, especially with all the smoke/fog, lights and abandoned buildings. The zombie actors came out of some surprising locations to scare us. There weren't that many zombie actors in the experience, but they did a good job regardless. Hawkeye led us the entire time and had us taking turns leading our group to salvation. I could have done without some of the culturally insensitive comments he made though.
example: Fix that computer!, You are Asian, you should know how to fix it, right?
After you survive the entire ordeal, everyone gets herded over back to the tent for a post-op debrief. What follows the debrief is a 5 minute speech on why we should go on Yelp or TripAdvisor and give them a 5 star rating. The 5 star rating speel got a bit annoying as it progressed. Instead of talking for so long, they should have spent the extra time making sure all the customers got what they paid for before the zombie experience.
Adventure Combat Ops is far from a 5 star experience, especially when Hawkeye is humiliating customers for no apparent reason. All I wanted is an extra magazine, but I had to get on my knees and beg for it. That ruined my experience from the get-go. My friend and I thought about purchasing some photos afterwards, but even that took a long time. We ended up just leaving. The zombie killing experience is pretty cool but I just wished there were more zombies. I wouldn't mind paying more $ for this type of attraction if they were able to hire more zombie actors. If you do end up coming to ACO, make sure you get two magazines because one is not enough.
