| - I have attended both The University of Arizona and Arizona State University while attending my undegrad. I decided to go back to school to get a degree in nursing and chose GCU due to the rave reviews I have heard about the program and how great the school was overall.
After attending the school for half a semester I emailed my advisor to drop all of my classes and to unenroll me for the following semester as I had hated going to school there. The school is very nice, don't get me wrong, but I feel this school has spent more time trying to add more revenue into the school rather than make what is currently there better. Heres a lists of pros and cons.
Pros:
-Nice campus
-Armed security on campus, at parking lots, etc. which made me feel safe.
Cons:
-There is absolutely no parking anywhere.
-Parking garages and lots are located very far from campus so there are long walks in the heat and late at night.
-The surrounding neighborhood is very crime-ridden and not safe.
-Instructors that I have come in contact with care very little about student success and will always blame students for not surpassing expectations.
-Complaints are not taken seriously.
-Certain departments have been on probation by different governing boards, but they still praise the programs and allow tons of new admits to the program even though they may not be accredited by the end of the year.
-They spend more money on adding dorms that they have outdated technology that hardly works for instructors.
-Their "LoudCloud" system is a joke to use and not easy to navigate.
-They force students to take "University Success" courses (how to do well in college) even if you already have a degree and a very high GPA just so they can charge another $1500 for a class.
-My previous degree involved a lot of research, writing, etc. and the professors would always find the smallest issue that they did not agree with to nit pick on.
-Very closed-minded school in regards to non-christian opinions.
-Their library is about 4000 sq ft and has less than 3000 books. (I am used to large libraries like UofA where there are over 2 million books, manuscripts, online databases, etc.
-They make up their own writing style "GCU Style" and will shun you for using regular MLA, APA, etc. which already sets students into failure for not learning how to write appropriately.
-VERY EXPENSIVE.
Overall, spend your money going to a state university instead of this one as the are more open-minded, have tons more resources, libraries, world renowned professors, etc.
