I rented an apartment at the Amalfi property for 15 months. They raised the rent so high upon my renewal that I decided not to renew my lease. I requested a walk through when I turned in the keys and was denied. I also asked the maintenance man to look at my apartment and asked him if anything looked out of order that I might get charged for and he said everything looked fine and that there was normal wear and tear on my carpet, so i didn't bother steam cleaning it. Weeks later I got a large bill for carpet damages and was told if I don't pay it, they will turn it into collections. (several hundred dollars) I feel completely taken advantage of. I even turned in my keys 9 days before my lease expired and had paid the rent in full. I asked to speak to upper management and they refuse to waive the charges. They allow a third party carpet company to come in and decide what things need to be done to the carpet. This is a major conflict of interest. I have been a renter for 27 years and I have never seen such a large rental increase or shady business practices such as what happened to me at this Ovation Property. I will never rent from this management company ever again and will make sure all my friends, etc. know how they treat tenants upon moving out.
