| - I agree, this is a wonderful place to buy cheese.
Anywhere else in Pittsburgh (and I do mean TJ's and Whole Foods, as well as Giant Eagle) your cheese is likely to taste like the plastic it is wrapped in.
At Penn Mac, it's not only the best in town, it's beyond excellent. In price, freshness, quality, selection. You can buy half pounds, despite what the sign says. I always did.
I also think the nuts are a great deal, and the spices. Worth the trek from whatever neighborhood you live in, or from your downtown workplace. If you have a car, they do have (limited) parking in back. And some of the nicest flowers in Pittsburgh are sold out front, too!
Holiday seasons and weekends this place is a bit nuts, but I went regularly, year-round, maybe every 2 weeks and totally relied on this place.
Foodies visiting Pittsburgh, especially if you're staying in the Convention Center area, should definitely check out "the Strip" for shopping and snacks.
