This place is a great example of not judging a book by its cover. Garden Grill replaced the abandoned Taco Bell, which was quite the eye sore in this neighborhood. I'm so happy this family decided to take a chance and open up this wonderful healthy option in West Park.
Garden Grill adds something new to this neighborhood. We've got a lot of bars, but not a lot of healthy eating options. Their menu is a mix of Mediterranean sandwiches, salads, and sides. We got some wraps for a picnic this weekend and were impressed by how big they are. You certainly get your money's worth. My parents loved the falafel and they've had quite a few falafel wraps in their lifetime. I loved the roasted eggplant wrap and I really only like eggplant when it's fried and covered in cheese so I was surprised I enjoyed it so much. My husband got steak and chicken philly wrap and said it was "meaty and cheesy" - not too descriptive but he ate the whole thing without hesitation. We've already been back twice and the owner recognized us. Service is friendly if not the most efficient, but I imagine that will improve in time. I did appreciate that the kitchen is open so if you want to chat up the cook/owner, feel free!
They seem to have invested in some nice tables and chairs as well so once you're inside, it's not quite as obvious that you are in an old Taco Bell. I'm hoping that they will continue to change the decor if business is good. That's really the only reason I didn't give them the fifth star as the ambiance isn't quite there yet.
Most foodies and yelpers know that some of the best food is found at the mom and pop shops. I hope you decide to give this place a shot the next time you're in the mood for some hummus, a gyro, or a fresh wrap. I'm already thinking about having them cater my son's birthday party!
