  • I was surprised with the service I got today. I always had taken my car to this shop and with the exception of one time they could not get my car fix for emissions test and I had to take it to another shop, the other times the service was good( I have to say in the past I took my car very early in the morning twice and they said they could not change the oil). But today... oh, today... God!... I took my car around 7:00 AM to this shop. I told the owner my car the day before was starting to have problems and was holding back, sometimes got very slow and I was seeing a lot of smoke coming from the back. The owner asked me if I had seen a light on the panel and I told him I did not. He asked one of the technicians to ride the car with me, which we did but the car did not show problems. The technician offered to check the car but he said it was going to cost me $200 and probably they would not find anything because it would not register the problem. I told him it was like a patient with heart symptoms that they would not check until he or she was dead. The owner asked me to bring the car back if it acted out, but it was not worthy to try to figure out the problem if no light was appearing on the panel. I discussed with the owner and technician the fact that riding a car on the streets that was not working properly was a safety issue. I drove my car again two and a half hours later or I tried to... When I was entering the highway the car started acting out again with the same symptoms it had the day before. I felt I was exposing myself to danger. I took my car to Dave's again and the owner again asked me if I had seen a light on the panel. Since I never saw anything I told him "no". He asked me to ride the car with him driving; the car started to act out and a light appeared on the panel (finally) on his face. He said that a mechanic would check it first and he asked me to wait and then offered a ride home because he said checking my car would take time. This time I waited and waited and waited for a call; it never had happened in the past, they used to call me few hours after bringing my car. I called the shop around 3:00 PM to see if my car was ready and they told me that they were just checking it. I never got a call and I had to call again at 5:15 knowing they close at 6:00 PM. I spoke to the technician and I told him they "had not given me a good service today". Technician told me he was the only one there and apologized. He told me they would have the car ready for tomorrow and the car would be safe that they needed to do more things to make sure that the car was working well;it was going to cost less than 200 dollars. Then, one minute later I got a call from the owner Dave telling me that he had finished working with the car, he has driven the car and he was not going to charge anything, but... since I had not been a good customer today he would not work with my car anymore and I could take my car to somebody else like Champ's( this is publicity for Champ's). This is unbelievable!!! So, the consumer is paying for the business' mediocrity! I was paying for trying to get my car fixed so my car and I( and other drivers) could be safe on the roads. I let Dave know how I felt and that I deserved better as a consumer; I let him know how I felt, truly. Today I had a really bad experience with a mechanic. All that I want was to fix my car!!!!!!!; I was not looking to fight or had bad arguments with business owners or mechanics. This is incredible. But I am glad I am not going to that shop anymore. When Dave told me he did not want to do business with me anymore I realized he had done me a big favor.
