| - This totally takes me back to my childhood. I was SO excited to hear that there was a stand alone Thrifty's Ice Cream shop opening not far from my house!!
My Mom and I stopped by on a HOT Saturday afternoon. The location was fairly easy to find - although I am surprised the address is listed as Wigwam, because it is definitely on the Pecos side of the center. There was plenty of parking, as it's a strip mall. The store itself isn't very big, and there are about 5 or so small, 2 person tables inside and 3 larger tables outside (which nobody wants to sit at in July).
We had absolutely no problems with the service. Both guys working were friendly and assisted us immediately, even though they seemed busy with other customers. There was a great selection of flavors. My Mom had the chocolate malted crunch and I had the banana nut. Of course, the prices have changed quite a bit since my childhood, and 1 small scoop, in a cup is $1.79. Oh well, that is still cheaper than coldstone or yogurtland, and I don't particularly think it's horrible.
I hate seeing people complain that the ice cream is nothing spectacular. It may not be the best ice cream in the world, but it's something that reminds a lot of people of growing up in Souther California. I think they do a good job of having a variety of flavors and I have never had something I DIDN'T like there.
That being said, It was good to travel down memory lane, but this isn't really a "go out of your way because it's SO good" type of place.
