| - I came here for brunch with a girlfriend after hearing good things about the bloody marys and mimosas. I ordered a mushroom egg breakfast sandwich and the diy bloody mary, and she had the turkey sausage breakfast sandwich with bottomless mimosas.
To start with the breakfast cocktails, my friend seemed to really enjoy the mimosas - she took three refills. Really sweet drinks are not my thing, but the sip I had was pleasant enough.
I had high expectations for the bloody mary bar, but was underwhelmed. While the ingredients and add-ons are ubiquitous, the cheese had obviously been sitting out all morning and seemed stale and glossy. The bacon was the "ready-to-eat" variety that I ended up leaving on my plate (it seemed like a cute novel idea at the bar, but less appetizing once I sat down and actually took a closer look at it). The vegetables were a day or so from going soft, which did not bode well for the skewers available. No one wants grape tomatoes spraying all over their white top, and no one wants browning, soft celery. The bloody mary mix itself was nice - I got the spicy mix and added a little of the plain tomato juice. The vodka they provide you with has obviously been watered down - they are cutting corners and it shows.
Moving on to the food - my friend ate her whole sandwich and thought it was delicious. I on the other hand, picked away at a quarter of mine before giving up. The bun just isn't suited for an egg-only sandwich, there needs to be more substance, even if you're rounding it out with bacon or sausage There is a reason the most breakfast sandwiches are english muffins or toasts (and some substantial croissants): they are sturdy enough to balance out the more delicate texture of eggs, vegetables, and breakfast meats. A burger bun is meant for a quarter pound of beef; it is light and fluffy to contrast the heaviness of the rest of the sandwich. The bun might have been salvageable if it was toasted, but it was a dry bun with an egg, mushroom, and some cheese slapped on.
The atmosphere and staff are good. The restaurant has comfortable booths, and plenty of chairs around the bar, which is well stocked. You can have a group that enjoys Bud Light or more unique cocktails and probably please everyone. Our waiter was helpful, explaining DLUX's concept and answering all the questions we had about the food without hovering too much.
So there are two views here, hence the three star rating. My friend LOVED everything about DLUX and can't wait to go back for their happy hour. I probably wouldn't go back unless that was what everyone was set on, and I'd think twice about cocktails if they are as watered down as my bloody mary was.
