For our anniversary my boyfriend and I chose to go to Tamari and it was the best restaurant choice in Pittsburgh we could have experienced. My boyfriend ordered a beer and I ordered the jalapeno margarita (without the "smoky" tequila up-charge) and it was awesome. There were the traditional hints of sweetness that comes with margaritas but instead of the sour it was spicy. The jalapenos were a nice touch and the drink was not overpowered by them. Next we had the calamari and jalapeno appetizer. Also very good, the calamari was slightly fried and was complemented by the pickled jalapenos. I had the sea scallop and sweet potato croquette entree. The scallops were amazing, including the sauce they were in, savory and light. The sweet potato croquettes were filling and tasty. They were rich with a interesting "yeast" flavor. My boyfriend got the wagyu beef short-rib entree that came with a parsnip puree and puffed rice. I of course had to try his entree and was pleasantly surprised. The beef had the most in-depth flavor composition and my boyfriend described it as the best beef he has ever eaten (and we do frequent top restaurants). The parsnip sauce with puffed rice was also light with a pleasing taste. For dessert, because we were so impressed with the food we had to continue the delights, we had the spicy chocolate tart. It was chocolatey rich and the spiciness surfaced as a slow burn in the back of the throat. As you could guess we love spicy foods and this meal was an absolute treasure. I would not change a single thing!
