  • Just a few days after opening, Gelato Messina has quickly received high praise from the masses, and has given Las Vegas their Australian spin on Gelatos and Sorbets. MORE THAN BASKIN-ROBBINS! 40 flavors (10 sorbets, 25 gelato, and 5 special flavors that rotate weekly ) is a pretty tough situation to be in, but the girl who helped us was a rockstar giving us suggestions and pointing out the popular flavors as well as her favorites. "Take your time" she says..."Try all the flavors" she says ...You had me at ALL! I didn't go through all 40, but somewhere in between 20 and 30. Hey, when at Gelato Messina, you do as you're told, and sample before you select! CRIKEY!? Their special Gelato flavors are very creative but after sampling the Heisenberg(Blueberry Yogurt, candied violet), Pecan Pie(Pecan pie gelato, pecan pie pieces) So Wrong, But So Right(Cream Cheese Gelato, bacon gel, potato chips, and duck fat caramel) Elvis, The Fat Years (peanut butter gelato, banana, and brioche) it's just a bit too much going on for me. A taste? Yes....a scoop? Probably not. I tend to favor the more simple flavors, like the smooth texture and intense flavors of the Pistachio, Dulce de Leche, and Hazelnut and the more delicate Asian flavored sorbets they offer(Pandan Coconut, Salted Coconut and Mango, and Lychee Coconut. For the sorbets, I liked the Lilikoi/Passion fruit and Blood Orange. Looking forward to what the future holds for Gelato Messina's newest location, and the only one in the U.S. On Messina's website, it asks if you know of a good combination of flavors other than their present top 10 combinations. Well, here's what I didn't see, and what I think would be awesome to try being that Messina is from down under: THAT'S THE WAY THE VIOLET CRUMBLES: Honey Gelato base with crushed Violet Crumble mixed in WHOLE LOTTA LAMINGTON! Coconut Gelato base with chocolate swirl and Lamingtons folded in TIM TAM JAM Malted Chocolate Gelato base with strawberry jam and Tim Tam Cookies THE STEVE IRWIN(Crocodile Hunter) Madagascar Vanilla Bean Gelato base, caramel swirl, and Macadamia Nut brittle MESSINAround (monthly mystery flavor) The chef's experimental mix, kinda like a limited edition brew or wine ....and I'll even hashtag it as instructed.... #mymessinasbetterthanyours Who knows? Team Messina may already have these flavors concocted in their arsenal of special flavors already! Anywho, WELCOME TO VEGAS GELATO MESSINA !!! There's definitely something for everyone here, and prices here are very reasonable. If you feel like it's pricey, then it's best for you to walk down to that ice cream cookie sandwich spot nearby. Definitely one of the top three spots to get my gelato fix at. ALOHA!!! Shaka Meter: \uuu/ \uuu/ \uuu/ \uuu/ 4 *Looking forward to seeing the Cheeseburger and Chicken and Waffles make their American debut!
