We stayed here for a hockey tournament. A group of pee wee boys under 12. The Pittsburgh Marriott Airport is on the list of hotels to host stays for hockey families. I wouldn't stay here again if I was offered a free weekend stay. We were told check-in was at 3. We arrived at the hotel roughly around 320. Room wasn't ready. Not a big deal. I finished unloading the car; 10 minutes later the room was ready. My reservation shows I was receiving a room with 2 beds. We get there and I had a bed and a pull out sofa bed. Again, no big deal. So for some reason our team was split between 3 different floors - which I don't understand because we also had other teams staying on these floors. I would think you would try your best to keep these teams together. Once we arrived we realized that there are renovations being done. I'm not sure if it was told before hand or not so I won't even touch that subject. There was a make shift "bar" and "restaurant"; ie: tables shoved into a conference room and a little round "table ledge" as the bar. Businesses renovate - understandable. Moving forward.
the food: the food was good but no matter what was ordered it always took forever to receive your meal. at one point my child ordered chicken fingers for take out and they said come back in 30 minutes. 40 minutes later the chicken fingers were finally done. they also ran out of chicken fingers. Who runs out of chicken fingers? Especially knowing you are hosting a hotel full of kids?
Their "complimentary" breakfast was 17 per person. Don't waste your money.
There was also a place on the side that sold sandwiches and stuff in a case. PLEASE save your money and do not buy anything! AWFUL!
the wifi: extremely slow. they shouldn't even say they offer free wifi b/c its so slow its useless.
the room: The room was nothing special. It was clean. It was falling apart a little but that's minor. I was lucky enough to get a room with a refrigerator because not every room did. Some people had to pay 10 dollars to get a refrigerator.
the staff: the bartender was a nice guy. the staff at the front desk seemed OK. the manager was AWFUL. they are not a kid friendly hotel. I don't understand why they would put themselves on the list to host a hockey tournament when they don't know the first thing about hosting with kids. because of renovations the hotel opened up a conference room for all teams to get together, eat etc. The kids weren't allowed to bring in and play their mini hockey with the foam ball yet I got off the elevator and seen kids playing it directly on the floor. The manager was very inconsistent on how the hotel was ran. It wasn't OK for the kids to play mini hockey but it was OK for the other kids to play outside the elevator - and he seen this bc as I was getting off the elevator he was walking by.
At one point there were about 4 kids talking and he walks up and says they can't stand there in the hallway (the hallway that led to the conference rooms and bar/restaurant.) why? they weren't bothering anyone, they just had left the conference room and were talking. they weren't running, screaming nothing. Then you couldn't have alcohol in the hallway. There was a table against the wall outside of the restaurant/bar. I sat there to eat and have a beer but alcohol wasn't permitted? Why is the table there then? What about all the people I seen walking thru the hotel with beer bottles in their hands. So on Saturday it was OK to have beer bottles in your hand on the elevator, walking the hallways etc but it wasn't OK Sunday at the table? Extremely inconsistent and rude. The "manager" has no idea how to manage.
There were complaints from other people who were staying at the hotel about being woken up at 530 am. Complain to the front desk then! Why wouldn't they put us on a floor together? That is poor management! The entire team was separated between 3 floors. WHY? We had to get up early for games. We are rolling hockey bags thru the hallways. These kids are excited to play. If management would have done their job correctly the hockey team would have been together and wouldn't have woken any one up. Poor poor management. Disgrace!
I will never ever stay here again and they should do other families a favor and take themselves off the Myhockeytournament list because they DO NOT know how to treat kids.
Do yourself and family a favor and book elsewhere.
