| - Sloan Park is The Chicago Cubs' new Mesa, Arizona spring training stadium, which hosts the Cubbies for their Cactus League games ahead of the regular season. It has a fresh new look and feel like most modern stadiums, yet it maintains some of Chicago's iconic spirit from their longtime stadium back in the Windy City.
I spent a couple hours here watching the Cubs take on the defending champion Royals for a spring training game, and the overall experience was great. The weather gods were gracious enough to give us a partly sunny, 70 degree spring day to enjoy the game. On top of that, I was seated along the third base line under the convenient awnings which shaded me from the hot AZ sun. We looked down on the field from a few levels up, but it was close enough to be a perfect view of the game, with only a small sliver of the far left field obstructed by seats.
The game was good (I had no dog in the fight and just enjoyed the action), the food was good, and the crowd was friendly and jovial. Conveniently located restrooms throughout, lots of food and drink options all along the stadium's perimeter, and they even had an area with some Hall of Fame players signing memorabilia (including Bill Buckner!)
For anyone spending time in Mesa for any reason in March, I highly recommend catching a game and enjoying the afternoon.
