  • Soo.. we rescued a dog at the beginning of the year. I had a friend who i visited and her boyfriend was just terribly mean to this dog! Every time she stood up, she was yelled at to "Go lay down".. the entire 2 hours we were there. Poor girl was also underweight and looked terrified. Thankfullly, at some point in the night the guy said he is ready to get rid of the dog. Bobby didn't even wait till the sentence came out--- we were officially the owner of a dog. (Good news.. she has put on weight in the last 3 weeks and is beyond loving and friendly! She is a true blessing to our home) My pup & I decided to venture here Saturday to enjoy the 40+ degree weather. it was her first time and her 1st birthday! woo! I honestly was a little nervous since she came from an abused home and didnt know how she would react.I kept her on the leash for a little, but she looked completely comfortable, happy and just wanted to go play with the other dogs! I let her off the leash and she ran wild with the 4 new friends that she made. We stayed for about an hour but then she became thirsty. I tried to give her water from bottle but she didnt understand the concept and no bowls were available. It would be a nice touch to add some of those.. but in the meantime i ordered a collapsible one on amazon. Another thing about this park.. it gets muddy! The snow melted causing a deep puddle at all entrances. It was also muddy in the middle grassy part (large dog park) The small dog park was 80% mud and water so some small dogs were over in the large dog park. Also, I wish all owners would clean up after their dog!! Overall, all of the pups and owners were extremely friendly! My dog is very friendly and loving.. she loves to stand on her back legs to greet greet people. (I call it a hug, hehe) I apologized to everyone, but they were so understanding "It's fine dear, You have to expect that at a dog park" Minus the no bowls, mud and few owners who dont clean up after their pet, this is a great park and it's nice to have this for pets within the busy south side! Go all the way down 18th, cross the railroad tracks and the park will be on your right. I'm so thankful to have this dog park nearby my home!
