  • Boo to the flu! I spent too much of my life in this place when my husband got a really bad case of the flu. The parking lot is big, which I appreciated. Other hospitals leave you searching for parking, or walking ten miles to get there. The interior of the waiting room was surprisingly old and dirty for a new medical center. The one television was small. There weren't organic masks readily available, considering the hacking that was going on in there. The reception guy was nice enough. I'm sure people are giving him a hard time all day, considering what I'm about to put down. We were like the second people in there, but it quickly filled up. It is a really bad flu season, after all. The chairs were uncomfortable. It was really cold in there. And by hour 5 (yes, FIVE), it looked like a Wal-mart. There were tweakers looking for pain meds, transients, big folks in little clothes, old ladies in belly shirts, snowbirds, barfing people, smelly people, loud people...it didn't discriminate. We were the tired, aggravated people. We get a bed in the ED. It looks like a spare room that was a last minute thing. There was storage and a decontamination closet shower. The I/V pole had rust, dirt and splashes of old blood all over it. I was having a panic attack juat thinking about it, and must have used a whole container of hand sanitizer. Our nurse Vickie was really personable and kind. Turns out, we have a friend in common. I felt bad for her that she was alone in the section. Like no other nurses. Really. The doctor told us minute one about the game plan, once his earlier drawn bloodwork and nasal swab came back positive for Influenza A , bronchitis and high lactic acid. The plan never materialized. It seems that the orders weren't communicated to our nurse. Not written down, typed in, who knows? In hour 11, he finally got the I/V fluids the doc prescribed in hour 6. Vickie felt bad for me and produced a Sprite and turkey sandwich. At that point, it tasted like a filet mignon. Thanks Vickie! The intake lady came to tell me about our copay, which I am fully aware of. She tried to tell me that it was 350 more than it was. Um, nope. Then, she couldn't collect payment anyway, because the payment system was down. This place is a hot mess. After 12 1/2 hours, he was discharged. No prescriptions. Weird. Even his primary on his follow-up visit was surprised. Gave him a steroid, cough syrup and Z-pack. I will say though that Dr. Cummins was really nice, informative and funny. Great bedside manner. I just wish that communication between staff was better. There were a few residents lingering around on their phones the whole night, which makes you mad to watch, given that everyone is just waiting, and there is only one nurse. Help her give out water and blankets if that's all you can do! I finally was able to pay our copay on day 3. Seriously, whose system goes down for 3 days in a hospital?! Robin was very nice, and was super apologetic. Not her fault. She promptly mailed us a receipt. This hospital didn't instill much confidence nor customer service. The topping on the cake? I got sick after leaving! Doh!
