| - I am a huge coffee and tea drinker and pop in to many shops all over the city, including my own neighborhood of Mt. Washington. However... Big Dog may just be my very favorite! My boyfriend lives in the Southside, so we are near to Big Dog and try to visit as much as we can. They have an absolutely huge selection of teas if that's your thing. I tend to get a Chai latte or a white mocha - these drinks are SO much better than anything you'll drink at a chain like Starbucks. You can tell they're not just pouring Chai flavored syrup into some milk and calling it a day.
If you're sticking around and are able to snag a seat, you'll find that your drink comes with a beautiful design in the foam. I know that many places do this nowadays, but it's a little detail that I really enjoy. The ambiance is super cozy but it's contrasted by the amazing Baron Batch artwork hanging throughout the shop. He's one of my very favorite artists, and this touch makes me love the coffee shop that much more. As a full-time corporate America worker... I have no reason to work or study in Big Dog during the day. But the ambiance makes me wish I did! I wish I would have known about this place in college years ago.
RE: the food.. I'm not sure where they're sourcing the baked goods from, but they've all been delicious. However, I LOVE to get oatmeal from the bar! They have so many toppings to choose from, and everything is fresh. You won't be hungry for the rest of the day if you have this for breakfast!
Lastly, their baristas really are excellent. As I mentioned before, I love the drinks. But the chatter and conversation that we share with the baristas each time we stop in really makes the visit worthwhile. I will always, always, always come to Big Dog! :)
