This is about as good as it gets without frills, gimmicks, luxury, scantily clad waitresses, and pretentiousness. It has become my favorite place to stay off The Strip and a convenient alternative to the Rio while in town for a WSOP event.
The rooms have now all been remodeled in the last few years. The bathrooms have a sliding door and are at the far end of the room - when the front door opens, the hallway has a direct view of the bed(s). Even with the new furniture and remodel the carpets still have some mystery stains. The rooms with double beds have 3 big pillows each that are not too soft and not too stiff. The a/c unit is loud and the thermostat is near the window. It was 110 outside and one side of the room would get really cold before it would shut off.
The casino itself is bright, kind of old-school, and has more of a locals feel than a casino on The Strip. There's a decent number of table games and you can even find some $5 minimum blackjack tables early in the mornings. There is no poker room. The smoke doesn't get ventilated very well - it caused a sore throat while I was running pretty good on the Super Fun 21 table. Damn it!
Most casino/hotels have some sort of generic eatery that's open 24 hours. Gold Coast has TGIFridays. While I'm not a huge fan of TGIF's, it sure beats most other options late at night.
The service is fine but I did notice that the bed sheets may not have been completely changed out - the same little rip at the corner of the top sheet was there each time.
