I went to Masthead for my monthly new restaurant dinner with some friends on a Thursday night. I had not heard much about it so I wasn't sure what to expect, but it was different than I thought it would be. It was warm when we got there so they had the garage style doors open, which was nice. The set-up of the place was very much like a big beer hall with long shared tables. You picked where you wanted to sit. It reminded me a lot of Harpoon Brewery in Boston. There were no waiters so you ordered your drinks and food at the bar and picked your food up at a separate area.
In regards to food and beer...
Beer: I ordered the Pilsner since I'm usually a lighter beer Pilsner fan. However, this one was much hoppier than I expected it to be and wasn't a fan of it. I ordered the Blonde Ale next which was much better.
Food: I ordered a salad (can't remember which one) and split the Basil Pesto pizza with a friend. I also tried some of the brussel sprouts my friend ordered. The salad size was rather large I thought and was very good. The pizza was also delicious. It was perfect to share with 3 slices each. It was a unique pizza that I'd highly recommend. The brussel sprouts were also delicious!
Overall Thoughts:
- It's in an out of the way location on Superior. It can be more difficult to find parking and you have to pay (meters or a garage). However I think it's good to see restaurants more spread out downtown.
- They have lots of TVs around. The Cavs game was on the night I was there and it was easy to see and watch.
- The prices are very affordable.
- It's a fun vibe when going with a group.
- Could be a good spot just to stop for a few drinks.
- I'd recommend this as a good place to try!
