| - Wow, what a tourist trap.
Which is how we found ourselves there, in Cave Creek, an hour from our home. We were there because out of town guests wanted to go there. We wouldn't have chosen to go here on our own.
From the second we walked in, you can see it's very Country Western themed. Boots hanging from ceiling, pictures and art, wooden tables. But it's nothing you can't get at other restaurants around town.
We had reservations but arrived early, so had to wait about 10 minutes. It was packed. Our table was not cleaned off before we were sat there & there were holes in my chair. Service was adequate, but nothing too friendly or fast. You could tell our server was overwhelmed- "in the weeds." Our table was in the worst location- back corner by the bar & server station so I had people standing over me to get to the bar, knocking my chair (one lady's purse hit me in the head as she squeezed past), and servers dropping plates or talking to each other about their customers. Trust me, I get it- I waited tables for years & we talked about customers too. But never where other customers could hear us! Speaking of hearing, the restaurant was LOUD! Mostly because it was packed but music was on too.
I was in a party of 4- 2 people had the fish fry, 1 had steak & I had the chicken sandwich. The food was awful! All meals came out cold with the exception of the steak. The fries are the kind of Ore Ida you can get at the store (not crinkle cut though) and everything was bland. My chicken sandwich had green chilis on it & they had no flavor at all. I doused it with salt & pepper & tried to choke down cold fries with ranch that didn't taste good either (you know when something doesn't taste right but you can't explain it? That was the ranch). The only person who finished their meal was the 1 who had the steak & we all agreed we should've had that. At least it wasn't a rip off- all meals were in $10 range except for steak which I think was $17. But as terrible as the food was, you couldn't pay me to eat it again.
We finished our meal & went outside to check out the bull riding. Here's why I give BC 2 stars instead of 1-- it's a cool set up outside. Several bars & beer tubs, an arena for bull riding, picnic tables & bonfires. The people watching is First Class- tourists, cougars, teens, cowboys. Crowd seemed to be about 85% over the age of 45 & more tourists than locals. It was crowded & at times seemed like a meat market. Bull riding takes place at 8, 9, & 10 and you should get there early to sit in arena.
Inside, half of the restaurant had been cleared of tables, a live country cover band was playing & people were dancing. Sorry- just seemed hokey to us. Again, it was crowded. The guys who had the pool tables couldn't even play because of people crowded around them.
I wasn't impressed & doubt I'll be back unless dragged all the way up there again. And one things for sure, I will not eat there ever again- BLECH! Sit in the back, drink beers & enjoy people watching.
