| - I don't recommend RENCO Roofing
I was assisting my brother in getting bids to replace an old foam roof on his newly purchased home. I met with a salesman (Jari Marjanen) in September; He seemed knowledge and advised that he had 30 years of roofing experience. He made suggestions of how things should be done, including replacing two skylights, insulating the rooftop AC. Upon receipt of his quote, I advised my brother to accept it (including his recommendations) because I thought that they knew their stuff.
My brother signed RENCO Roofing's contract, provided the contracted deposit, and then waited 3 weeks until they were available to start the job.
On Saturday 10/14, (2 business days before the work was to begin) my brother recieved an email from Jari, explaining that RENCO Roofing had forgotten to include the costs for debris removal and skylights. Both these items were detailed in the contract my had brother signed. Jari's email stated that it would be approximately $2100 MORE than the original $6800 quote. He didn't return my brother's and my emails and didn't answer my calls to him.
On Monday morning I spoke with a Project Manager (Shane) who admitted that someone forgot to price those items and that he had only caught the error on Friday as they were preparing for the job the following the week. He advised he was trying to contact the owner, who I had asked to speak to.
Later that afternoon a sales manager (Brady Kumpula) called me to advise that RENCO Roofing had no intention of performing the work that was listed in the signed contract for the amount my brother originally quoted, and for which he signed a RENCO Roofing contract, and for which he provided RENCO Roofing a deposit. He advised me that my brother did nothing wrong, that RENCO Roofing had made an error; that his company did not include costs that the contract explicitly stated were included.
I asked why there was no QA process, and why 4 days (2 business) prior to when work is to begin, that his sales rep informed my brother that for work to begin, my brother will have to pay significantly more. I suggested that any error should have been notified PRIOR to acceptance of his deposit. I advised that by waiting 3 weeks, he impacted our ability to manage his renovation schedule, and inconvenienced him greatly.
He advised that despite this error by RENCO Roofing, they would not fulfill the contract the way it was written & contracted. That he would only perform the work for thousands of dollars more. I asked him to consider if He were contracting with a vendor, what would he do; Brady did not respond.
I then put myself in his shoes, and I suggested that if this was my business, I would have at first apologized, and, if couldn't stand by the original terms, then at the very least I would have made an offer to do the work at lower profit margin, and to subcontracted skylight work at RENCO Roofing cost. Brady offered none of that and provided no apology while confirming that the costs that RENCO Roofing forgot to include would be at standard profit margin.
I advised Brady that we had a signed contract and deposit for 3 weeks, and it is my belief that constitutes a binding agreement. He disputed that suggesting that because RENCO Roofing did not countersign the document it was not legally binding.
When I asked to speak to an owner, Brady advised that it was unnecessary, as there was nothing that they would do differently. I realize now that I should not have taken a call from a Sales Manager - that he was only looking at his own commission, and any discounting would impact or negate that.
Despite asking several times to speak with the owner, I never received a call. This demonstrates that RENCO Roofing has no remorse for the admitted mistake that it made. And this makes it very difficult to trust RENCO Roofing for any work.
On Monday 10/16 I sent a summary of the above to Brady Kumpula to document our conversation. I asked him to notify me if anything was incorrect. To date, I've not had any reply from he or Jari.
I advise anyone considering this company to be aware that RENCO Roofing does not know what customer service is; they don't stand behind their agreements; and they have a faulty Quality Assurance program.
If you are considering RENCO Roofing: PROCEED AT YOUR OWN RISK
