  • This review is more about Dr. Cunnigham's office staff, and more particularly his wife, whom handles the offices accounting. As a doctor, Dr. Cunnigham is a decent doctor. His bedside manner will not be everyone's cup of tea, as he could be viewed by some as being inappropriate. However, to me he came across as being a straight shooter, easy to talk to, and an authentic person. This is where all positive aspects begin and end. His office staff has always been deplorable, but I tolerated them, because finding a decent doctor you identify with and can talk to, can be a real challenge. By deplorable I mean totally unfriendly and unprofessional, and exhibiting virtually no redeeming qualities. Unfortunately, this holds especially true for his wife. In 2011 I lost my job, and switched to my fiances insurance. I went in to visit Dr. Cunningham for my yearly physical, and it wasn't until the exam was over, that I was informed that my fiances insurance wouldn't cover me. Myself being a long time patient, and Dr. Cunningham being a reasonable man, instructed his staff to not bill me for the visit. Shortly after this we were forced to move because of my job loss. Fast forward 24 months, I find a new job, get new insurance, and pay Dr. Cunningham a visit. I am informed that I have an outstanding bill of $268 dollars, and that Dr. Cunnigham is now charging an annual patient fee of several hundred dollars. Since I have a decent job, and I like Dr. Cunnigham I happily pay what I am told I owe. Fast forward another 12 months or so, and my current company switches insurance, and once again, Dr. Cunnigham doesn't take this new insurance! I am also in the process of buying a new home, and find out that this $268 that I paid was reported to the credit bureau. I called Dr. Cunnighams office, and asked to speak with Dr. Cunnigham, and they wouldn't put me through. He is reasonable, knows who I am, and I figured a couple minutes of his time and we could easily clear this up. Unfortunately, I am never able to talk to him. I do get a call back from his wife, who is in charge of the office accounting, and I tried to explain to her what had transpired. She then flat out insulted me, essentially called me a low life, and continued to berate me for not paying a bill that: 1) I never received due to a change of address 2) shouldn't have technically been billed for in the first place if Dr. Cunninghams office staff wasn't incompetent, and had listened to his instructions 3) I paid instantly as soon as I was made aware of the bill. I feel like the way she treated me was absolutely despicable, and that nobody should be talked to like that, regardless of the merit, or lack thereof, of her claim of negligence. The type of people Dr. Cunnigham surrounds himself with, the exorbitant annual patient fee, and ultimately the way I was treated after being a loyal patient for many years, forces me to warn others about this practice. If you are looking for a good PCP then I suggest you check out DC Ranch Family Medicine.
