Went to MEC to check out their jackets. Not surprisingly they were priced higher than Sporting Life and Amazon but they had good selection so I tried a few on. Their MEC rain jackets zippers were of poor construction. Multiple jackets by MEC had the zippers getting caught on the waterproofing fabric behind the seal. This could have easily been solved if the flap was a few mm longer which led me to believe not a lot of thought or care went into making these jackets. When you spend about the same on Patagonia or Helly Hansen you know you're getting quality but with MEC jackets not so much.
Not only did I find MEC quality poor when you go to checkout they require you to pay a mandatory membership fee just to have the privilege to pay higher prices than Sporting Life, Sail and Amazon. With Costco you can justify a membership because it generally has the lowest prices. MEC membership offers nothing to me or the average purchaser and is more of a cash grab than a retail co-op.
Cashier was a bit snobby on the way out too. MEC is more like a cult than a retail co-op, I'll keep avoiding this place but maybe it's your flavour of koolaid.
