| - I came for the experience having long gone to the same hairstylist and salon for over a year now. I like trying things new, and having read the great reviews on yelp, I decided to give this place a go.
When I first entered, it smelt great and the atmosphere (first floor) was welcoming. My cut was on the second floor (student) by Rihanna. We talked for about 3min on what I wanted - a basic trim (1 inch off, redefine my long layers and my side bangs). I told her I lacked volume so she wanted to give me a round brush blow dry and flat iron my ends. I said okay.
She checked with the instructor, who said my hair was too heavy for volume without products. I've never had other hairstylists comment on this and just gave me the voluminous cut I desired. I said okay and didn't mind her comment.
She gave me some tea (which I had no time to drink) and a massage (felt like she was ripping out some of my hair). I passed it off b/c it was for the experience anyways.
As she was cutting away, I noticed a sign that mentioned a cut was $21+, blow dry $10, flat iron $10, etc. I wasn't aware of this. Just for others to note when considering the price.
She cut around for 15min, dropping things as she went and pulling my hair. She looked like she never cut hair before. She cut the long layers so poorly, it looked like a one-length blunt cut. I told her this and she said that it would look more natural as time passed, and that she would later texturize.
Rihanna then began blow drying my hair for 10min, again pulling my hair and scratching my face with the brush as she went. I wanted to cry -- it looked so frizzy and damaged. My hair looked fried. I told her it was looking a bit dry (to be polite), so she added some oil. There were no long layers, no side bangs, no fluidity...
She brought her instructor, who said it was good (couldn't be bothered) so I commented on the side bangs. She snipped around everywhere and made it presentable.
Rihanna walked me out. She was sweet, yet untalkative. My total came to $32 and the affordable price/new experience isn't worth the STRESS.
If you still want to give this place a go, try reading on some students and find out who's good. Ask for them when booking an appointment rather than going in and allowing chance to make it a hit or miss.
