Same complaint as others - rude owner brings the place from a 5 to a 1.
On my first, and only visit, I ordered an Americano. The owner asked that I tell him when to stop pouring hot water over the shot. I responded, laughing, that I had no experience doing so and thus no basis for an opinion on the matter, and asked him to stop where he thought was normal or best. An appropriate response would have been "that's fair, I recommend you take it a half/quarter/completely full and then you can base your future decisions on this first experience". Instead he frostily replied "you have to choose". Note my friend and I were the only people in there. Just brutal.
Haven't been back - I have no interest in paying someone to speak to me like I'm a child. With so many good coffee options in the City there's no reason to put up with this kind of pretentious nonsense. It's places like this that drive people to Tim Horton's and Starbuck's to avoid "hipsters". In this case, those people are right.
Having said all this, the Eglinton location was great, and had extremely friendly staff. Too bad it closed!
