I bought my first bike in 25 years from RB Inc (a Jamis DXT Elite), and I am embarrassingly ignorant of all things related to cycling.
Rob (manager) and Chris (mechanic) are very knowledgeable, and they patiently answer all of my silly questions. I never feel like they are talking down to me. I have since had numerous problems with my bike -- most of which were caused by me. I keep on bringing my bike back, and they keep on fixing my problems.
I hope to learn enough about bicycle maintenance that I will be able to fix most things myself. But until that day occurs, I thank the heavens that for Rob and Chris.
