  • This is a painful review for me to have to write, as I really had high hopes for this vet practice. I've had multiple pets my entire adult life, so I have a lot of experience with veterinary professionals. I really liked Dr K personally and he seemed to be one of the smartest and well-educated vets I've met recently. Unfortunately, just a day after Dr K gave my cat a clean bill of health in January, she died unexpectedly in her sleep. That should have been a red flag for me but I continued to take our other pets to Phoenix Mountain, including our 14-year old Dachshund who had developed a nasty cough over a period of months that was starting to become morbid. After shaming me into conducting an expensive x-ray, Dr K diagnosed the dog as having physical deterioration of his airway due to age, which was supposedly causing the coughing. He also prescribed an anti-inflammatory and antibiotic, "just to be on the safe side" as he put it.The cough only got worse. Upon our last visit for this problem, Dr K's assistant vet recommended conducting an even more expensive EKG, while prescribing more of the antibiotic and anti-inflammatory drugs that didn't do any good the first time. At that point, I decided to take charge of my dog's care. A pharmacist friend happened to visit our house not long after out last appointment at Phoenix Mountain and suggested that the dog's hacking might be due to a fungal infection of the lungs, but probably not the dreaded Valley Fever infection because the animal had no other symptoms of it. Based on our pharmacist friend's advice, we started the dog on a simple course of anti-fungal treatment and I'm pleased to report he's now 100% symptom free. The cough that had been his constant companion for nearly a year, and which had fruitlessly cost me hundreds of dollars at Phoenix Mountain, is now all gone. Thank goodness, but NO THANKS TO PHOENIX MOUNTAIN ANIMAL HOSPITAL. Based on my experience here, I have to believe that the numerous 5-star reviews this business has received are not legitimate.
