| - I'm not a huge Warhol fan, but since I was in Pittsburgh I felt that I had to check this place out. I have to admit that I didn't know a lot about Warhol outside of the pop art & Campbell's soup can. I was surprised that one man's life takes up that much space. Multiple floors! Lots of life stories! Lots of quirk! Lots of art!
Something should be said about the layout of this museum. You start at the top in Warhol's younger days & work your way down through the decades. As you move through his life, you can see how his work was influenced through what was going on around him. For example, The Velvet Underground years. His work changed so drastically while hanging out with them. I'm curious on how much Warhol influenced them during that time.
The museum is set up to make you relive Warhol's life. One story in particular that I found fascinating was Warhol's stuffed Great Dane. Warhol purchased it for his office in order to scare people away. Yes, this museum features 1 artist with a floor dedicated to rotating artists. It doesn't sound that exciting, right? Wrong! This museum excels in putting his work & life in context.
A lot of people mentioned the $20 admission. I think that's fine if you're paying for yourself. If you're going with a group of people... maybe your significant other, parents, aunts, cousins, & you're paying? Yeah... that can add up quickly! Maybe, keep it $20 per person if you're a couple. If you have 4 or more people then it should probably be $15 per person.
In my opinion, this museum is a must visit in Pittsburgh. One of my favorite museums ever. I plan to visit during future trips to Pittsburgh.
