I'm not a fan of sushi (too filling) but I love sashimi.
With sushi, restaurants can get away with less-than-fresh fish by adding sweet things to it like gravy, etc. (I don't think the authentic Japanese restaurants never do this so if you find sweet gravy or sauce on your sushi, that's probably not authentic Japanese or the fish tastes stale on its own).
With sashimi, there's no getting away with stale fish.
I loved my Sushi Mon experience today because the Sashimi Dinner was reasonably priced (about $13) for the ample serving they provide, the service was great, and the fish was delectably fresh.
Additional notes:
It's hard to get a table at Sushimon - and I live about 10 minutes away, so lately I've found it practical to order takeout by phone. The food is just as good.
